Send Workout vs. Assign Workout: What's the Difference?
In this video, we’ll walk you through how to send a self-led workout to a client. These are the workouts they’ll complete on their own, outside of their in-person sessions with you.
First, let’s clear up a common confusion. What is the difference between sending and assigning a workout?
- When you send a workout, you’re giving the client something to complete on their own, outside of your in-person sessions. These workouts appear in the Client App, inside the Client Folder, under the Workouts tab. It’s a great way to keep clients active between sessions and help them stay consistent. These are the self-led workouts.
- When you assign a workout, you’re attaching it to a scheduled session that you’ll do together with the client. This workout will be part of that session’s flow, visible when you start the session from your Trainer App.
How does this all tie into the features in the app? There are two key features in the app related to workouts:
1. The Workout and Program Builder
You’ll find this on the homepage. This is where you create workouts and programs and assign them to sessions you’re conducting in person with your client. These are trainer-led sessions, and the workouts created here are not sent to the client to do on their own.
2. Self-Led Workouts
This is the feature we’re focusing on today. Self-led workouts are assigned to clients for them to complete independently. These workouts are typically assigned during Session #1 or a Progress Check, also known as pulse check.
During these sessions, in the questionnaire, you will set the client’s workout frequency, referring to how many times per week they should train ON THEIR OWN. Once you’ve selected the frequency, you then select the types of self-led workouts.
There are two types of self-led workouts:
Basic Self-Led Workouts
These include all workout types except “New Programmed Workout.” Once assigned, the client will see these workouts listed in their app and can mark them as complete. However, they won’t see a breakdown of exercises, sets, or reps.
Programmed Self-Led Workouts
If you select “New Programmed Workout,” you’ll then be prompted to choose a workout from the library. This lets you send a fully structured workout, complete with exercises, sets, reps, and videos if your client needs to follow along on their own. Click on any workout thumbnail to select it. You can choose one or multiple workouts. To unselect a workout, just click it again. When you’re done, click Confirm, and proceed to complete the questionnaire.
These workouts will then appear in the Client Folder under the Workouts tab, in both Trainer app, and client app. Both you and your client will be able to view them. Your client can mark self-led workouts as completed through their app, and you’ll be able to see their completion status from your Trainer App.
You can also assign additional self-led workouts at any time outside of Session #1 or a Progress Check.
Here’s how:
- Go to the Clients tab, select the client, and open their Client Folder.
- Head to the Workouts tab, and click on Send a Workout.
- Choose from either the Crunch Library or My Library.
- Click on any workout thumbnail to select it. You can choose one or multiple workouts. To unselect a workout, just click it again.
- When you’re done, click Confirm.
Next, you’ll be prompted to set:
- The completion period or by when you want the client to complete the workout, and
- The frequency or how many times per week they should do the workout
If you’re assigning multiple workouts, you can apply the same settings to all by clicking Apply to All, or customize each one individually.
When you’re ready, click Save and Send.
The workouts will now appear in the client’s Workouts tab.
They’ll be visible to both you and your client—and you’ll be able to track their completion directly in the app.
Now that you know how to send and monitor self-led workouts, you’re equipped to deliver even more value, both inside and outside of your sessions.
